What this site is

ORBITAL computes and displays public astronomical and orbital information: launch schedules, satellite pass predictions, moon phase, planetary positions and twilight times. Everything is derived from public sources and is recomputed on your device where possible.

Accuracy

Astronomical positions are computed with established algorithms and are good to the precision shown. Satellite predictions depend on orbital elements that age: a pass computed from a day-old element set can be off by seconds, one computed from a week-old set by minutes. Launch schedules change without notice and the upstream provider can be delayed. Numbers here may be wrong, and the ones that matter are always published somewhere more authoritative.

No warranty

The site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the site or reliance on its numbers.

Not for navigation or safety-critical use

Do not use this site for aircraft, marine or vehicle navigation, for aviation or maritime planning, for collision avoidance, or for any decision where a wrong number could injure someone or damage property. It is a stargazing aid.

Launch data: Launch Library 2 by The Space Devs. Orbital elements: Celestrak. Astronomy: astronomy-engine (MIT). Map outlines: Natural Earth (public domain). Their terms apply to their data.

Advertising

There is no advertising on the site today. If ads are introduced they will be clearly marked, will not be disguised as content or as download buttons, and this page will be updated first.
